Hi Team Stony Tennis
Hope everyone is well and it finally feels like summer is coming. Sorry I haven’t been in touch for a few weeks, but I recently got married and took some time away from work and I am now raring to go this summer term!
Over the past year, the response to the emails have been outstanding, with over a 50% opening rate…which really is a great achievement. I enjoy discussing all things tennis and life with everyone and if there are any specific topics or things you would like to know more about, then please let me know by replying to this email.
Today's email is a (relatively) quick update.
So what’s been happening?
Stony Stratford Tennis Club was nationally highlighted over Easter as we ran our first LTA Grade 3 Regional Tournament which was an amazing success. With 253 event entries and many Team Stony players involved, I can safely say our club has been elevated to a new level and we hope to continue to run this as an annual event.
Our players have had lots of success competing in LTA tournaments all over the country and abroad, with Kyle and Alisha travelling to Ghana to compete in an 18&U International tournament. The dedication of all these players and parents is exceptional but like many, they started out as youngsters at the club and have developed over the years into future world-beaters and more importantly, well-rounded individuals. We have 2 new coaches joining the team. Nick Boys started in April and is a level 4 coach with great experience. He is working Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and will help me with growing the number of 8&U players and the future awards scheme. Toby Draper, who is not new to the club but has just finished his Sports Science Degree at Leeds University, is a level 2 coach and will soon be progressing to level 3. Toby starts next Tuesday and will be involved in both the coaching program, expanding the schools network and assisting me in my Head Coach duties.
And what is coming up?
On Friday 10th May at 7pm in the clubhouse we are holding a farewell gathering for coach Phil Hill. As mentioned in a previous email, Phil has been with us for 10 years and is leaving at the end of May to return to his home county of Kent. Everyone is welcome and I hope you can join us.
All 11-14 year old (those born in 2010 to 2013) need to sign up by Sunday 5th May to our Play Your Way to Wimbledon Competition which is running on Sunday 12th May. It is open to everyone at the club whether you are a beginner or advanced player as we’ll ensure the competition is fair for various abilities. For more information and to sign up, please click here.
The Junior Club Championships will be run as a festival over the weekend of Sat 22nd and Sun 23rd June and free to all club members. THIS IS ONE NOT TO MISS! The age groups are 10&U, 12&U, 14&U, 16&U and 18&U with both singles and doubles. The event is for all abilities and we will ensure the players compete against similar standards and then if they win, I am sure the level will go up, which will be great. The finals for each age group and the 8&U and 9&U events will be in September.

May Half Term Camps are from Tuesday 27th to Friday 31st May and bookings are open. Tennis is the main activity but we also mix it up with other sporting and recreational activities. These have been very popular in the past, so sign your kids up now to enjoy improving their tennis skills and making new friends. Please click here to sign up.
Have your kids tried Junior Club Night? Every Thursday from 4.30-6.30pm, join Coach Lam for organized fun and games where junior club members get to socialize with other members, play matches, participate in group games and enjoy hanging out at the club. To get involved, you must be a club member (click here to join) and then turn up! It’s that simple.
Thank you all for your continued support and helping us create the amazing buzz around the club…it truly is a very special place.
Happy tennising!
