Hi Team Stony Tennis
At the end of May, Coach Phil Hill will be leaving Stony Stratford Tennis Club to return to his home county to start a new opportunity. He will be greatly missed as his influence on everyone has been amazing but we will continue to keep in contact and hopefully when he's in the area, he'll pay us a visit.
I've known Phil for many years and even borrowed his coach pass in Barcelona to get into a pro tournament where I watched Andy Murray's first ATP Tournament :) Phil is a wonderful person and I have so much respect for him. He has helped me and many others to make Team Stony Tennis what it is and for that we will all be eternally grateful.
I am sure everyone will have time to speak with him over the next few weeks but we are holding a little send-off party on Friday 10th May at 7pm in the clubhouse. The bar will be open and there will be a few sandwiches and nibbles. It is an open invitation for children and adults, so please put the date in the diary and I am sure Phil will appreciate seeing whoever can make it.
Phil has kindly sent some parting words which I would like to share with you all:
Over the last 10 years I have coached and played for Stony Stratford Tennis Club, in those years I have thoroughly enjoyed both coaching, playing and interacting with all the people (both children and adults) within the environment of the tennis club. It has been great to see the development of the children both as tennis players and more importantly as human beings.
Unfortunately, life and times change, and I have decided to move on in my role as a tennis coach and LTA Coach Education Tutor to leave and move onto pastures new. At the end of May I will move back to where my tennis started for me, in Kent.
I will be starting a new adventure in both coaching and tutoring. I will also be seeing more of my family and friends back in my home county.
I would like to thank many people for such a fantastic time (the years seemed to have flown!) in particular, John Cavill and (initially Melvyn Jones) for giving me the opportunity to work at a great club my fellow coaches (Lam Huynh, Richard Walters, Jason Fairhurst, Eric Oduro as well other coaches who have contributed and moved on) who are all passionate about their coaching and see their pupils develop and love the game.
I would all like to thanks the chairman Simon Burn and club committee who have allowed me to do what I do best and coach, with very little interference …which for me, I found a very positive experience.
I would also like to thank, last by no means least, the parents of the players I have worked with who have put faith in me to help their respective kids to improve as well as their support both emotive and financial to give them the opportunity to play and enjoy this game of tennis.
I will, no doubt, keep in touch with everyone relating to the club and hopefully catch up with you at some point especially if you are in the Kent area.
Love Phil
We wish you all the best!
