From Stony Stratford to Division 2 Tennis – Emily Marshall Signs with West Virginia Wesleyan College

Hi Team Stony Tennis,

I am delighted to share some truly special news from Team Stony Tennis.

Emily Marshall has officially signed a Division 2 Tennis Scholarship with West Virginia Wesleyan College in the United States!

This is a proud moment not only for Emily and her family but for our entire Stony Stratford Tennis Club community.

What makes this achievement particularly meaningful is that Emily's journey started right here at our club. She first picked up a racket at just 3 years old, and over the years has progressed through every stage of our programme through hard work, commitment, resilience, and an unwavering love for the game.

As a coach, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a player you've worked with from their very first steps on court achieve an opportunity of this magnitude.

Many young players dream of becoming professional tennis players, but the reality is that only a very small percentage of players earn a living from competing on the professional tour.

That is why the US College Tennis pathway is such an incredible opportunity.

  • World-Class Education
Emily's tennis has helped her secure a highly subsidised university education, providing an outstanding foundation for her future career.
  • Elite Athlete Environment
She will train daily in world-class facilities, compete against top players, and travel across the United States representing her university.
  • A Future Full of Options
Whether she chooses to pursue professional tennis after university or follow another career path, she will graduate with both a degree and invaluable life experience.
A Pathway Available to Our Players

One of the most exciting aspects of Emily's story is that it demonstrates what is possible through dedication and long-term development.

At Team Stony Tennis, we have built a programme designed to support players from their first swing of a racket all the way through to performance tennis, county representation, national competition, and international opportunities such as US College Scholarships.

Emily's achievement is proof that these opportunities are within reach for committed young players who are willing to work hard and embrace the journey.

Congratulations Emily!

Emily, we are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved.
Your dedication, professionalism, and perseverance have been an inspiration to younger players throughout the programme, and we have no doubt that you will thrive at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The entire Team Stony Tennis and Stony Stratford Tennis Club community will be cheering you on from across the Atlantic.

Congratulations and best of luck on this exciting new chapter!

Happy tennising!

Team Stony Tennis Stars Shine as Bucks Secure Silver at 8&U Inter-County Regionals

Hi Team Stony Tennis,

It was a weekend to remember for Team Stony Tennis as two of our standout young players, Mia and Annia, put on a brilliant display of skill, grit, and teamwork to help Buckinghamshire secure a fantastic Silver medal at the 8&U Inter-County Regional competition. Facing off against some of the best young talent in the region, the girls proved they belong at the very top.

The tournament kicked off with a fast-paced group stage, where Bucks made an immediate statement. They opened with a dominant 5–1 victory over Cambridgeshire before carrying that momentum into their second match, defeating a tough Essex side 4–2. While they stumbled slightly against Northamptonshire in a hard-fought 4–2 loss, their strong overall performance safely booked their ticket to the knockout rounds.

From there, the drama only intensified. The semi-final against Hertfordshire was an absolute nail-biter, ending in a tense 3–3 deadlock. With a spot in the final on the line, the decision went down to a points count-back, which Bucks dramatically clinched by just 8 points.

The final against Berkshire proved to be an equally epic battle. History repeated itself as the teams fought to another breathtaking 3–3 tie. It came down to the absolute wire, but unfortunately, luck wasn't on Bucks' side this time, narrowly missing out on the Gold medal by a microscopic 9-point count-back.

As coach, I am incredibly proud of both Mia and Annia. Watching their rapid improvement week in and week out is an absolute joy, and earning the opportunity to represent Bucks against the region's elite is a testament to their hard work. Taking home a regional Silver medal is a massive achievement, and this is just the beginning—there is undoubtedly lots more to come from these two over the years.

Please join everyone at Team Stony Tennis in giving Mia and Annia a huge congratulations for making us all so proud!

Happy tennising!
