Hi Team Stony Tennis,
I wanted to share a special perspective with you today from one of our long-standing parents at Team Stony Tennis — Anda Cancel.
Anda’s been part of our community for over five years, with both of her daughters, Sofia (Age 9) and Annia (Age 6), actively involved in the programme. What started as a way to channel their energy and curiosity quickly became a journey of passion, growth, and family connection through tennis.
Here’s a glimpse into what she had to say:
“Tennis has helped our daughters build structure, discipline, emotional resilience, and friendships. What began as a fun activity soon became something they truly loved, and Team Stony has been at the heart of their development.”
Anda was drawn to our programme not just for the coaching — though she praises the quality and professionalism of our team — but for the genuine community she and her family found here. From the welcoming clubhouse to the buzz of competitive teenage players inspiring the younger ones, Team Stony became more than a training ground. It became a second home.
“The coaches are incredibly professional yet warm and supportive, creating an atmosphere that inspires the kids to give their best while still having fun.”
Her message to other parents is simple and heartfelt:
“Even one experience can make a lasting impression. This is a fantastic environment for kids to grow, build confidence, and fall in love with the sport.”
If you or someone you know is thinking about starting their child’s tennis journey — or looking for a new environment that brings together expert coaching and a true sense of belonging — we’d love to welcome you to Team Stony Tennis.
Here is full story of Anda our long-standing parents at Team Stony Tennis regarding her children.
1. What inspired you to get your child/children involved in tennis?
From the time Sofia was just two years old, it was clear she had natural athleticism — always running, climbing, and eager to take on any physical challenge. We wanted to channel that energy into something positive, and tennis stood out to us as a sport that could help her develop focus, independence, and resilience. She was introduced to tennis just before turning four. Initially, our intention was simply to let her try something active and fun — not to pursue it at a performance level. But after just a few sessions, it became obvious how much she loved it and how quickly she was progressing. Her enthusiasm and talent truly took us by surprise, and her journey in the sport began to unfold organically.
With our younger daughter, Annia, the journey has been even more natural. She practically grew up on the tennis court, accompanying Sofia to every training session and tournament. Sofia has always been a role model for her, and that sibling connection has played a big part in Annia’s interest in the sport.
Tennis has been amazing for helping both of them build structure, discipline, emotional resilience, and friendships. We believe strongly in the importance of keeping children active—not just for their physical health, but for their emotional and social development too. Limiting screen time has always been a priority for us, and sports like tennis have provided a much healthier and more fulfilling alternative.
2. Why did you choose Team Stony Tennis over other coaching programmes?
There were several reasons why Team Stony Tennis stood out to us. A trusted tennis coach in London had initially recommended the programme, and I had planned to reach out the next day. To my surprise, John Cavill, the club director, reached out to me first. His initiative and personal engagement left a lasting impression even before we visited the club. That level of professionalism, dedication, and genuine interest in new players really set Team Stony apart.
The quality of coaching was another major factor. The club has a fantastic team of skilled coaches and a strong group of competitive teenage players. This creates a highly motivating environment where younger players benefit from training alongside more advanced peers. It’s a rare and valuable dynamic.
Finally, the club’s facilities were a big draw. With multiple courts, a welcoming clubhouse, and a terrace overlooking the courts, the environment is ideal for both training and community. The addition of a winter dome ensures consistent year-round training — a huge advantage in the UK climate.
3. What positive changes have you noticed in your child since joining Team Stony Tennis?
Since joining Team Stony Tennis, the transformation in both of my daughters has been remarkable. First and foremost, they absolutely love being part of the club. They look forward to every session and feel genuinely connected to the community.
Their tennis skills have developed significantly in a short time, thanks to well-structured lessons that balance technical drills with match play. This keeps them challenged, engaged, and constantly learning. Their confidence has grown immensely—not only on the court but in everyday life. Being surrounded by skilled players and encouraging coaches has had a tremendous impact on their self-esteem and sense of belonging.
Socially, they’ve made many new friends, and the club truly feels like a second home. Beyond tennis, I’ve noticed improvements in their discipline, focus, and overall physical fitness. The coaches are incredibly professional yet warm and supportive, creating an atmosphere that inspires the kids to give their best while still having fun. As a parent, it’s been a joy to watch them thrive in such a positive and well-organized environment.
4. How has being part of the Team Stony community impacted your family’s experience with tennis?
Being part of the Team Stony community has been a wonderful experience for our entire family. It's far more than just a coaching programme — it truly feels like being part of an extended family. Tennis has become a shared passion that we enjoy together, and we've formed great friendships with other families at the club.
Team Stony has brought us closer as a family. We spend more quality time together, support each other at events, and tennis has become more than just a sport — it's become a meaningful part of our lifestyle.
5. What would you say to another parent thinking about enrolling their child in our programme?
I would wholeheartedly encourage any parent to give Team Stony Tennis a try. Even one experience can make a lasting impression on a child. The coaches are exceptional, the atmosphere is welcoming and uplifting, and the programme offers a perfect balance of skill development and fun. It’s a fantastic environment for kids to grow, build confidence, and fall in love with the sport.
Happy Tennising!
